My Soul's Too Late To Save

Ask me anything   Northern California is where I call home. I post random stuff. I do not claim credit for 98% of the pictures I post. I work in radio. Music is my best friend. Ask is always open. If you need to chat, or if you just want to chat, I'm here.

Rape victims say military labels them 'crazy' - CNN.com →

lilyevanspotter:

Stephanie Schroeder joined the U.S. Marine Corps not long after 9/11. She was a 21-year-old with an associate’s degree when she reported for boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina. “I felt like it was the right thing to do,” Schroeder recalls. A year and a half later, the Marines diagnosed her with a personality disorder and deemed her psychologically unfit for the Corps.

Anna Moore enlisted in the Army after 9/11 and planned to make a career of it. Moore was a Patriot missile battery operator in Germany when she was diagnosed with a personality disorder and dismissed from the Army.

Jenny McClendon was serving as a sonar operator on a Navy destroyer when she received her personality disorder diagnosis.

These women joined different branches of the military but they share a common experience: Each received the psychiatric diagnosis and military discharge after reporting a sexual assault.

Military records show the personality disorder diagnosis is being used disproportionately on women, according to military records obtained by Yale Law School’s Veterans Legal Services Clinic under a Freedom of Information Act request.

  • In the Army, 16% of all soldiers are women, but females constitute 24% of all personality disorder discharges.
  • Air Force: women make up 21% of the ranks and 35% of personality disorder discharges.
  • Navy: 17% of sailors are women and 26% of personality disorder discharges
  • Marines: 7% of the Corps and 14% of personality disorder discharges

The records don’t reflect how many of those women had reported sexual assault.

5 Ways the GOP's War on Women is Fueling Rape Culture →

Not only should you READ this, you need to UNDERSTAND it.

Women are not second class citizens. There should not be laws that are against ONLY us. Don’t tell me that a pregnancy formed from a rape is a gift from God. Don’t tell women in general that these laws are in place because our gender “lies” about being raped.

Women need to be aware and educated that the GOP does not care about you. Let me say that again- the GOP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. They think you are less of a person than your male counterparts.

Men- these laws will place the women in your life at risk. Your mother, your sister, your aunt, your grandma, your cousins, your best friends, your girlfriend, your wife. Have respect for the women in your life and don’t support these assholes who want to strip them of their rights.

(Sorry for the political rant here but this is important. Pictures of half naked chicks are great but… take the 5 minutes it takes to read this. Please.)

"Let’s talk about rape for a moment. Rape is not what George Lucas did to your childhood. Rape is not what happens when a sports team beats another sports team by a wide margin. Rape is not what happens when your electric bill is higher this month than it was last month. Rape is when a person violates another person in the most despicable, degrading way imaginable and among the myriad of terrible things humans can do to one another, rape is among the worst. I think the casual misappropriation of the concept of rape extending all the way to its widespread comical usage is disgusting even by Internet standards."
